General Classroom Information:
WE ARE A PEANUT/TREE NUT FREE CLASSROOM THIS YEAR! Please send in safe snacks that do NOT contain any of these items in your child's daily snacks. Thank you kindly!
Homework: There will be NO homework given on a weekly basis. The only homework your child will have is work that was unfinished in the classroom. Please have your child read each night, spend time outside and enjoy quality family time together.
Friday Notes: Schoolwide notes and corrected assignments will go home with students on Fridays. Please check your child's backpack before Monday morning for important information.
Friday Newsletter: Expect an email on the last day of school each week from the 5th grade team. This newsletter will be emailed to you and will have all the latest information we are learning about and all upcoming events and deadlines.
Leader of the Week: Mr. Gifford recognizes a Leader of the Week with a special form. If your child is showing leadership qualities, a note will go home with your child from Mr. Gifford. Your child will then have the opportunity to shine as a LEADER in our school for that week.
Student Birthdays: Your child's special day will be recognized, however our district policy now prohibits the use of food items to celebrate birthdays. Here are possible alternative non-food item options to celebrate birthdays school wide.

Suggested ideas include:
- Party favors such as bouncy balls, pencils, erasers, tops, notepads, bubbles, etc. (available at local dollar stores)
- Classroom donation: purchase an item for the classroom (book, game, music, plant, etc.). Consider placing a celebration label with your child's name on this item.
- Send in something that all children can sign (shirt/sweatshirt, tote bag, autograph stuffed animal, pillow case, etc.)
- Show and tell time: your child can bring in photos or a favorite item to share with the class
- Extra Recess Time: please tell your child to inform me that it is their birthday and that they would like to have an extra recess to celebrate. I will honor this time sometime during their birthday week!
*If you choose to send in an individual treat for each student, we have 26 students in our classroom for the 2021-22 school year. NO FOOD is allowed! Thank you!
